Eat Natural..... Be Real...Real Fresh and Healthy

It is not me who invented this side dish, it's my dad. He contributed this side dish salad to our regular meal hoping to find relief to his lingering gout.

Dad was hospitalized due to his gout... ang mga praning na doctor, pinagkamalang bone fracture ang gout, depending on my dad's story that he fell 7ft from our roof to the ground while fixing our roof. He was x-rayed and ewan kung binasa o nag basa- basahan lng ang doctor na nag interpret. His foot with gout was cement-cast by the doctor. He was sent home after three days of hospital confinement. Two weeks was needed for his cast to "heal" his ankle. But 5th day plang, nilagare na ni daddy ang kanyang cast! Pinagpuyatan nila ni mommy na tanggalin ang cast sa kanyang paa.

Seeking a second opinion, the internist said," Pastor, P2 lang ang gamot sa dinaramdam mo!"
Hahahahahhahaha!! How I laughed!
Dad said, " P2? How come? I spent P16k for hospitalization and the cast!"
"Pastor, you have gout. This pill only costs P2. Take it 2x a day."
"Daddy, hahahahhahaha!! Ang dami mo nagasta, P2 lng pla katapat nyan!!", my taunt.
We went home with dad scratching his head.

When you're getting old, you think of going herbal or something, as alternative to your medicine. Someone told my dad that celery extract is good for gout because of it's diuretic ability. So araw-araw may tsaang celery kami!

"Hindi q kayang inumin yan...so yukky daddy! eeeww!"
"Maganda yan sa immune system mo!"
"Wala akong gout! Matibay bones ko!"
"Make cleanse yang sistema mo pag uminom ka nito."
"Ayaw! Lasang impakto! Di ko keri daddy! Papangusin ko na lng."
"Mas maganda concoction."
"Ayaw! Kahon!"

So dad cooked his celery. I eat mine fresh. Until one day, his blood pressure soared up and his allergic rhinitis went bad. He did experiments with food. Namamahalan na siya sa mga gamot na binibili niya. Until one dinner, my mom served fried baby barracuda and celery salad for dinner.

"Sabi sau fresh is better. But why may onions?"

CELERY SALSA

Ingredients:

3 stalks celery with leaves, chopped into small pieces
1 tomato, sliced
1 white onion, diced
dressings are optional

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients.Toss and refrigerate before eating. Best served with fried fish, meat, seafoods and sauced dishes.

The health benefit of the Salsa:

Celery contains a high amount of Vit. C that helps boost the body's immune system.
It also contains calcium, magnesium and pottasium that help regulate blood pressure. It's pthalides compound relaxes the muscle of the arterial wall allowing the vessels to dilate., thus blood can flow freely.. so you won't need to take aspirin daily if you have hypertension, to prevent stroke. Celery can handle that.

Celery also lowers cholesterol in the body by increasing the secretion of bile acid.
It is diuretic, enhancing cleansing of the body's system. Prevents arthritis. Anti-inflammatory. Aids in weight loss. Rich in fiber, preventing colon cancer.

The salsa requires white onion..... so you can eat it!  The red onion has a tangy taste that I find it difficult to chew. The white onion contains the same nutrients as the red one.

Onion contains copper that increases bone density and prevents bone loss due to aging. A very good partner with your daily calcium pill.

It lowers the risk of having colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon and rectum), laryngeal cancer (throat cancer), oral cancer, which is predominant to those heavy smokers; esophageal cancer (cancer of the esophagus), and ovarian cancer.

Onions contain sulfur that helps prevent undesirable coagulation of blood in the arteries that causes stroke. This sulfur content of onion has an anti-clotting effect on the body's blood vessels.

Onion is also anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial.

Onion is not bad at all!

Tomatoes, my all time favorite fruit, is rich in Vitamin C and beta carotene, excellent in fighting cancer cells. It also has manganese, Vitamin A and E. It has lycopene that reduce the risk of heart diseases, lowering blood pressure and prevents muscular degeneration.

Tomatoes have anti-oxidant that prevents prostate cancer if taken regularly.

It also has pottasium that is good for the bones. It reduces the chances of Alzheimer disease increasing neurological function.

The Celery Salsa served with fried fish and broiled eggplant

Did the salsa do good to my dad ?  Yeah, he makes kuwento everytime we eat it. But it does a lot good for me... it increases my appetite.

Minding your health by going natural is not bad. I acquired the habit of going natural when I became allergic to synthetic medicine. Vegetables specially if eaten raw contribute much benefit to our body than the cooked ones. Just clean them thoroughly or blanch them. Veggies and fruits are good to our skin n amount of perfume can replace a naturally sweet smelling skin.... veggies and fruits can do that. ...and that I will discuss later...

antok na aq.
