There are four things that makes traveling by bus worthwhile. The traffic becomes a “not so” issue when these things are around.
1. When you have plenty of “baon”, chips, sandwiches chocolate, cookies, and a drink. A no no for rice and viand, or noodles eaten along the way. Very disturbing to other passengers. But many still have the nerve to do so, as if the passenger will go as far as Mindanao.
2. Good looking guys passengers! Ha ha ha! It’s nice to look at nice views! Men likes to have good looking girls around, too.
3. The green and cool view of nature you can see outside the window. As the bus travels, instead of sleeping, looking at the green fields and the trees helps calm the nerves and sooth the tired mind.
4. Making friends along the way. Chatting with a seatmate makes traveling a little less boring. I gain a lot of friends through this.
But there are three things that makes traveling annoying, aside from the new Provincial bus loading and unloading stations imposed by MMDA.
1. The different smell of perfume, cologne and lotions mixed with the body odors of the passengers and the bus’ conditionaire- irritating! People sensitive to smells usually are the first casualties.
2. The pa-sophisticated effect of some women passengers who don’t want to be bumped by other rushing passengers and make taray ; who don’t want to be commented for their long flowing hair as if they are in a shampoo commercial, which gets into your face and nose when the wind gets in the bus; and who don’t want to mind their sitting position, as if the bus seat is their throne!
I meet a lot of women with such traveling attitude.
3. The bus’ dusty airconditionaire and curtains! Mura lang naman ang sabon at tubig!
Keeping your most important things handy helped a lot when traveling. Simple, yet safe bags, less jewelries, simple look and subtle cellphone ringtones will help shoo danger and damages away.
In the development of technology, someone told me that even the matters of love got high tech, too. After listening to his explanations, I wonder if the single baby boomers and 60’s generation can catch up with this. Honestly, I got a little cold water feeling listening to my friend’s explanation. I hang out around some single 60’s generation friends who are still single, and admitted that they have difficulty catching up with the new generation high tech love! People reading knows what I’m talking about. Some ideas that may help both sides think :
1. The old generation’s single people are serious in their relationships. They are no longer looking for fun or temporary excitement that the new generation mostly look for.
2. They are looking for honesty. They are stable financially, economically and emotionally. They are sensitive to fraud.
3. They open their cards. Very few keep a shadow of mystery to their cards. So they demand the same.
4. They are tired of power struggle and “who’s the boss around?” because they are already “in power” in their own rights.
5. Loving them is also fun. They have a higher thinking of what is fun. One can learn a lot from them.
For people of my age, I say just keep your wits and sense in tack! That’s what technology cannot outsmart.
